Carboxy Methyl Cellulose(CMC) is synthesized by the alkali-catalyzed reaction of cellulose with chloroacetic acid. The polar (organic acid) carboxyl groups render the cellulose soluble and chemically reactive.

4.Application of CMC

1)CMC as additive used in food industry. It  is widely used in yoghurt,ice cream, beverage,wiejellyjam,cookies,noodle and meat etc.

2)CMC used in toothpaste industry, as the most important gum of the paste, has the good compatibility of various materials in the toothpast.

3)CMC used in liquid and paste detergent, actsas stabilizing agent and thickening agent, whenused in detergent powder, can prevents dirtfrom depositing again.

4)CMC used in driling fluid, fixing fluid andfracturing fluid as viscosifie,filtration reducerand rheology controller. it can protect theshaft and prevent mud flowing.

5)CMC can be used as stabilizer, which can avoid the delamination of the coating caused bythe sharp temperature variation.
