Cyanuric acid acts as a stabilizer, allowing the effective chlorine in disinfectants to last longer. If your disinfectant is labeled "Stable", "trichloroisocyanuric acid", "sodium dichloroisocyanuric acid" or "dichloroisocyanuric acid", it already contains cyanuric acid and no further action is required. If not, like "calcium hypochlorite" bleach powder "sodium hypochlorite "" liquid chlorine" then you need to buy liquid or granular cyanuric acid, dilute it according to package instructions, and then add it to the pool.

The correct amount to add varies from product to product. In general, about 1.8 kg of cyanuric acid needs to be added to every 38,000 litres of water to reach the 10ppm level. It is recommended to maintain a cyanuric acid level of around 50ppm.
