Factors affecting the electrical conductivity of carbon black
1. Particle size. Theoretically, the smaller the particle size of carbon black, the more particles per volume, which is beneficial to improveelectrical conductivity.
2. DBP Value. The size of the DBP value of the carbon black structure represents the height of carbon black aggregate structure. Generally speaking, when the DBP value is high, the carbon black has a chain-like structure and has good conductivity.
3. Roughness. As the conduction of carbon black requires a certain degree of roughness, which makes it easy to form a conductive channel. So require the difference between carbon black's nitrogen adsorption surface area and CTAB surface area is large.
4. Surface volatilization. The volatilization on carbon black surface is mainly formed by some organic groups and oil film which cannot be fully cracked, forming an insulating layer, which increases the potential barrier between carbon black particles and seriously affects the conductivity. Therefore, the volatilization must be controlled within a lower limit.
5. Ash and moisture. The high ash content and moisture content in carbon black will reduce the content of carbon black, which also has an adverse effect on conductivity. In production, should pay more attention on the control of the ash content and moisture content in carbon black.
