The Application of Pigment Carbon Black
The purpose of the dispersion of pigment carbon black is to make it in a uniform distribution in the carrier. This difference in distribution will directly affect the hue, blackness and hiding power of the product. The dispersion of carbon black is mainly controlled by three factors: the size of the pigment particles, the size of the original particles of the pigment carbon black, and the level of the structure; the type of the carrier or dispersion medium, after adding the dispersant, will be coated on the surface of the carbon black particles, and thus The degree of reduction in the cohesion between the carbon black particles contributes to the dispersion of carbon black; the type of dispersing equipment used.
The dispersion of carbon black is very important in practical applications. When using carbon black to color, if the carbon black is poorly dispersed, it will lead to the following consequences:
1. The color intensity is not stable, and the black level of pigment carbon black cannot be well exhibited. And the appearance of bad color;
2, uneven distribution, there are stripes;
3, in the ink, paint and other products in the surface unevenness will lead to printing problems;
4, the extruder filter screen is blocked; When the blown film is processed, unblended carbon black agglomerates cause film bubble tearing;
5, single and flat yarns are broken, and the mechanical strength of the product is reduced. When the carbon black is ground and dispersed, it is the minimum requirement that the
Pigment carbon black particles reach a certain fineness. Under normal circumstances, the fineness should be ≤15 um. In high-grade coatings, there will be higher requirements even lower than 5um. The lower the moisture content of pigment carbon black, the easier the dispersion will be. some.
This is because in the dispersion system, the static electricity level of the pigment carbon black particles is related to the thickness of the electric double layer formed around them, and if the thickness of the electric double layer decreases, the dispersion stability of the particles will be directly affected. When the surface of the carbon black (or other pigment) particles has a high moisture content, the thickness of the electric double layer is reduced, which affects the dispersion stability.
